India's youth represent a major asset, with over half of the population under 25. Yet, only 51.25% of this youth demographic is deemed employable, underscoring a vital need for skill-building programs. The country faces a pressing challenge to equip 12-13 million new workforce entrants annually with industry-relevant skills.
TeamLease Degree Apprenticeship’s CEO, A.R. Ramesh, stresses that education should combine vocational training with academic knowledge to create a well-prepared workforce. He notes, “Industries face talent shortages, rapid tech advances, and workforce readiness gaps. With formal vocational training received by only 2.2% of those aged 15-59, apprenticeship programs are essential for bridging these gaps.”
India has seen over 1 million apprentices trained under the National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS), which showcases the success of structured, hands-on learning. These initiatives aim to boost productivity and readiness, ensuring that Indian youth are equipped for a rapidly evolving job market.
