A significant surge has been observed in female apprenticeship enrolment, marking a notable shift towards gender diversity and empowerment within the workforce. Over the past five years, there has been a remarkable 20-fold increase in the participation of women apprentices, reflecting a transformative journey towards fostering inclusivity and empowering women in both manufacturing and service sectors.
According to our findings:
- In the manufacturing sector, there has been a 5x increase in demand for female apprenticeships in the last 8-10 months.
- Within the services sector, female apprenticeship participation has seen a year-over-year surge of 33% in 2 years, particularly in industries such as GCC, BFSI, and Retail and Logistics.
- Anticipating a 70% year-over-year increase in the next three years, there is a growing recognition of the significance of gender diversity in driving innovation & creativity.
Female apprentices are increasingly being integrated into various job roles, ranging from traditional manufacturing shop floor positions to modern roles involving AI, ML, and Data Sciences, thereby enhancing productivity and fostering a positive work culture.
This momentum aligns with the vision of the Government of India (GoI) to make Nari Shakti an equal and integral part of India's development journey, as articulated in the NEP 2020 and National Skill Development Policy. Apprenticeships and other work-based learning programs have emerged as crucial pathways for women's empowerment, in line with these visionary policies.
To further enhance female participation and support their apprenticeship journeys, various initiatives are being implemented, including:
- Increased allocation of seats exclusively for females
- Expansion of female trainer numbers
- Introduction of flexible training schedules
- Development of digital platforms for connecting skilled women with potential employers
- Implementation of community outreach programs
